Massage are offered everywhere, be it in clinics or at home. However, it is quite a challenge of what is the right type of therapy for your needs. Depending on what result you desire, you should know what type of massage you should undertake.
Here are the most common types of light massage therapy that people request when they want to de-stress and who like a subtle result.
Pregnancy
This is also called as prenatal massage. The therapist should be certified in pregnancy massage as they know the proper way to position and support the pregnant body during the therapy to modify techniques.
Pregnancy massage is used to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, swelling, aches and pains.
This type focuses on your back and only requires 30 – 40 minutes of your time. If this is not listed at your massage clinic then just ask your therapist to set the session solely on your back.
Swedish
If it is your first time to experience massage, you should try this one. The Swedish massage can be very gentle and relaxing. The therapist uses long smooth strokes, kneading and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil.
Aromatherapy
This is a massage that uses essential oils to stimulate your body and promote relaxation through your favorite scents. Usually, the therapist will recommend some scented oils to you and if the scent suits your preference, it will be rubbed to your body. However, if you choose not to put some oils to your body, the therapist will just light some aromatic candles. The scent provides the mood for you to relax, energize and to reduce stress.
Aromatherapy massage is also known as an emotional balancer. It is usually requested by people who are emotionally stressed.
Hot Stone
Hot Stone Massage is a style of therapy in which water-treated stones are heated to be placed at specific sites on your body to promote deep dimensions of relaxation. The heated, smooth stones will warm and loosen your tight muscles to help open up meridians (energy pathways). This therapy is often accompanied by essential oils.
At some point of your session, your therapist may apply gentle pressure on the stones giving your body more warmth that may feel quite comforting. If you are not into pressure massages then you may opt for a hot stone therapy as this is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer a light massage.
